Saying Goodbye to the Blue Mountain Ranch We are no longer at the Blue Mountain Ranch.  We moved off completely as of July 29th.  It was a very bittersweet day for me.  All that is left up there is the 2 semi loads of hay, which I hope to get moved in the next couple of weeks.  Our new home, in Wibaux, is located on over an acre & is very quiet, except for the train.....   Our new home at 119 E Nolan in Wibaux

I have kept Bobbie out of it as much as possible to make the transition easier on him.  Some days he is very clear about the move & why, then other days it is a complete surprise to him.  Bobbie is doing well physically, but the dementia is getting worse.  He goes to adult day care during the day when I am at work & is home with me when I'm not.  He is unable to do much, but the desire to work is still there.  He may not know what day it is, or understand what is going on around him, but he does still know good cattle when he sees them & can tell you why!!!   I guess he'll always be a rancher.........   I picked him up at the nursing home the other day & when I ask him how his day was, he said he'd shoveled a lot of "sh..." !!!!  Had to smile!  The one thing dementia teaches you is to appreciate the small things & learn to appreciate the humorous side of the disease.  He can be really funny!!!!  Picture taken on July 29th at the Ranch

Wibaux has had an abundance of rain this summer.  Last I heard, they had recorded 25" of moisture so far in 2010.  It is so green & lush everywhere you look.  I've heard people say we look better than any place between Billings & Bismarck.  Lots of hay being put up so should be a lot cheaper this year than in years past.

The cattle are all out on this wonderful abundance of grass, bulls are out & all is good.  Our calves look phenomenal, especially the calves out of Ulmar & Timber.  I am hard pressed to decide which set of calves are better.  Timber really sired a super set of replacement quality heifers for us.  Super set of calves out of him.  Because of our poor demand for black bulls, we only kept a couple black bull calves at branding.  But, we kept several super nice red bulls.  We have a full brother to Webster (he is really looking nice), a PB out of Timber & a Stealth daughter, a PB out of a Black Medal Daughter & Sterling, another son out of our great Marianne Cow, & a phenomenal 75% out of Ulmar (eats cake out of my hand already).  I hope to have pictures of these boys soon.   The cattle are all at the leased place this summer so will be very easy to see, as they are only 12 miles from town.

If you get out to our area, please call or stop by.  We always love to "TALK" Salers.
